Corporate Engagement Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in helping homeless animals at the Michigan Humane Society.  MHS serves nearly 15,000 animals each year and we depend on caring people to help us get the job done.  Listed below are some ways your company and employees can get involved.

Contact Deb Scola at dscola@michiganhumane.org or 313-815-3788 for more information.

Event sponsorship

MHS holds several fundraising, adoption and community events with opportunities for sponsorship.  Events include the Purrfect Bow Wow Brunch, the Great Lakes Animal Welfare Conference, the Mutt March and Mega March, Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo, Meet Your Best Friend at Eastern Market, several low-cost vaccination clinics and more.  We want to know what matters most to your company and find the perfect fit.

Company sponsored fundraisers

MHS has 600 to 900 animals in shelter care on any given day. Food and supplies go quickly and we’re always in need. Companies often hold internal fundraisers for homeless animals to help collect items such as dog and cat food, treats, toys, cat litter, old towels and blankets, and newspapers to line cages.

Company sponsored employee adoption events

Research shows that people who owns pets are healthier and happier. Pets bring us unconditional love and joy and help beat the blues every day. They get us out for walks and to play, increasing our heart health and making us more social. Pet owners’ overall mental health improves and stress levels are lower. Improve the health and well-being of your employees by supporting and encouraging pet ownership.  MHS will do the heavy lifting.

Group Volunteer Opportunities

Shelter

MHS welcomes corporate groups of up to 15 people to help clean cages and feed animals.  Teams are welcome at the MHS Mackey Center for Animal Care in Detroit and the Berman Center for Animal Care in Westland on Thursdays and Fridays, working from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.  Volunteers will receive a tour of the facility, detailed instructions on working with animals and will spend a couple hours with a staff leader in either the dog kennels or cat rooms.

Pet Pantry

MHS welcomes corporate groups of up to 10 people to help organize and distribute food to the community through our Pet Pantry outreach at our Detroit warehouse. Volunteers will move and organize bags of food and supplies, fill orders from pantry clients and help load bags into cars.

Events

MHS puts on several events throughout the year, including walks, adoption events, vaccination clinics, and more.  We need volunteer groups to manage foot traffic, give directions to participants, set-up and break down, and a great deal more.  Let’s talk about what type of event would best match your needs.

Individual Volunteer Options

In addition to the opportunities listed above, individual volunteers are welcome to help in a number of ways, from washing bowls and folding laundry, to walking dogs and socializing cats.  We’re also in particular need of new foster volunteers who take animals into their homes for short periods of time to help them heal or gain weight and become ready for adoption (food, supplies, medical care and support provided by MHS).  Visit our website at www.michiganhumane.org/volunteer to get started.
