Authorities in West Michigan are searching for answers after a dog was found shot in the neck in Allegan County.
WOOD TV8 reports that Michigan State Police troopers responded to a call last Wednesday after someone discovered the injured dog near Wayland, Mich. Thankfully the canine survived after being taken to Dorr Veterinary Clinic to undergo surgery. Clinic owner Kayce Koski told the station that the bullet missed the dog’s spine by less than a centimeter.
“He’s very lucky that the bullet didn’t hit his spine,” Koski told WOOD TV. “He’s the sweetest boy. He was wagging his tail even when he came in, giving kisses, very friendly.”
The dog is believed to be a husky mix but does not have a collar or an embedded microchip. Anyone with information about the dog’s owner or leads regarding the shooter is encouraged to call MSP Wayland Post at 269-792-2213.
If no one claims ownership, MSP will transfer custody of the dog over to the Allegan County Animal Shelter to be placed for adoption.
