Canine to Five is a dog daycare, grooming and boarding facility in the metro Detroit area that hosts the Drinking with Dogs series throughout the year. The series is a fun way for animal lovers to support local dog rescues. Dog owners can bring their leash-friendly pups to socialize with other dogs while they enjoy a drink with other owners. A portion of the proceeds are then donated to a select rescue.

Last year, the Michigan Humane Society was thrilled to be involved in one of the Drinking with Dogs events that was held at Rosie O’Grady’s in Ferndale. This year, MHS was fortunate enough to participate not only at Rosie O’Grady’s, but also at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) on October 30. MHS graciously received a portion of total revenue from the Rosie O’Grady’s event, and a portion of ticket sales from the MOCAD event.

The Halloween-themed event at MOCAD featured the 10th annual Drinking with Dogs costume contest with SEEN Magazine. The evening was filled with lots of great costumes worn by both pets and owners. Contestants got the chance to win prizes from La Feria, Bobcat Bonnie’s, Target, Mike’s Pizza Bar and more. The overall contest winners were the spooktacular Dobermans Kinzie and Journey with their awesome skeleton pattern and adorable tutus, accompanied by their proud parents. It was a night to dress up, grab a drink and have a good time all while supporting MHS.

Guests and dogs attend Drinking With Dogs at MOCAD.

Drinking with Dogs is a great example of how third-party fundraising events can give others the opportunity to help in fun and unconventional ways. We would like to thank everyone who participated in and attended the events, and a special thank you to Canine to Five for hosting this series and for supporting local dog rescues and MHS.

If you or someone you know would like to fundraise for the animals at MHS, please contact our Advancement Associate, Christine Donaldson at 248-283-5648 or cdonaldson@michiganhumane.org.
