We are all wrestling with the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on our lives. Please know that during this unprecedented time, Michigan Humane’s mission has never been more clear: to continue to provide compassionate and lifesaving care to the animals of communities we serve. This is uncharted territory and uncertain times. We are committed to being a responsible community partner and upholding our mission.
Our pets are critically important to us and Michigan Humane is more than an animal welfare organization. We are taking our role in both being a resource and protecting our supporters, volunteers and staff very seriously.
As such, we are postponing this year’s Purrfect Bow Wow Brunch on April 26, 2020 and rescheduling to November 15, 2020 at the TCF Center.
This annual event raises more than $600,000 to provide the highest quality care to the animals entrusted to us and to those in our communities.
With the postponement of this year’s event, your support is critical now more than ever to the care of those most vulnerable.
Your safety and that of our staff and volunteers is a priority to us. To date, the following actions have also been taken to limit exposure of the virus to staff, volunteers and our supporters:
- Pet adoptions suspended and movement of animals into temporary foster homes through our volunteer program
- Animal intakes are being limited to contractual obligations and animals at-risk
- Non-essential clinic procedures are being postponed
All of these actions, including the postponement of Brunch, will have a negative impact on anticipated revenue sources to serve our mission. Regardless of the environment around us there will be a constant need for staff to care for the animals. That is an essential service and one we are committed to providing. As such, we are launching the Michigan Humane Emergency Fund to support operations during this time of crisis including:
- Field Services Team in our community to rescue animals
- Maintain Veterinarians on-site for emergency care and surgeries
- Medicine, pet food, and other supplies for animals in our care and foster care
- Staff serving animals and our community including coordinating with foster families and the pet pantry
- Other essential services to support families in need at this time
Your support during this time of need is critical now more than ever.
As Michigan Humane continues to be there for the animals, we need you to continue to be there for us.
