We are very proud to share that our Cruelty and Rescue Department was presented with the “Public Safety Partner” Award at the Detroit Public Safety Foundation’s (DPSF) annual Above & Beyond awards ceremony Wednesday evening honoring Detroit’s first responders.

Each year, the MHS team responds to more than 10,000 animal cruelty and rescue calls in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. Their caseload includes intentional abuse, neglect, abandonment, dogfighting and responding to the aid of injured or at-risk animals. MHS also works closely with local law enforcement officials and prosecutors to bring abusers to justice.

The work of these teams is not easy, but it is so necessary. You can get a glimpse of the lifesaving work they do every day by watching the video above, which was shown during the awards ceremony that was attended by more than 1,000 people.

Congratulations to all the hard-working men and women who were honored at the event, and thank you for making our city a safer and better place!
