Earlier this year, the Michigan Humane Society held its 30th Purrfect Bow Wow Brunch in celebration of our amazing supporters, staff and volunteers. It is remarkable to know that there are so many supporters out there that share one common goal – to save more animal lives. It is especially remarkable when someone finds their passion at such a young age.

That is the case for 14-year-old Charlotte Stroh, also known as Pixie, granddaughter of MHS Board Member Linda Axe. Pixie is a talented young artist who generously donated one of her horse paintings entitled “Vader” as an auction item at the brunch to help raise money for animals in need. She also gifted a dog painting entitled “Dorney” to Michigan Humane board members Paul Huxley and Cynthia Pasky of Strategic Staffing Solutions as a thank you for being the presenting sponsors of brunch.

Pixie is an eighth grader at Platt Middle School in Boulder, Colorado (Go Wolves!). Her favorite art mediums are pens, markers and painting with acrylic. She has loved art for as long as she can remember.

“I have always been interested and enjoyed art,” Pixie says. “It is fun to start something and see it get done. Like some kids enjoying sports I enjoy art because it makes me feel good about myself.”

Her playful art style has won her school’s yearbook cover contest. Outside of school, she competed in the National Duck Stamp contest, winning her age group in the state of Colorado. She hopes to one day be a professional painter, interior designer, or a fashion designer.

Pixie is an animal lover and her family has two furry friends of their own: Tula and Bubba. She and her father have been volunteering at their local humane society in Boulder, Colorado since 2018. Her love for animals is reflected in her paintings and her participation in the brunch. About her time with MHS, Pixie said, “I just want to thank all of the wonderful people that work with the Michigan Humane Society. It makes me very happy to know that there are humans trying to help our animals every day.”

While Pixie is thankful for the people at MHS, it is people like her that should be thanked as well. It is inspiring to see today’s youth using their talents and donating their time for causes that truly matter!
