MHS is giving a hearty salute to all of our military heroes this Veteran’s Day. Today and every day, our partnership with Pets for Patriots gives back to our veterans by offering greatly discounted adoption fees for qualifying dogs and cats, as well as discounted care at an MHS veterinary center for the lifetime of the pet.
Members of any branch of the U.S. armed forces, at any stage of their careers are eligible: whether they are active, reserve, retired or a veteran. Qualifying dogs and cats are: either 2 years or older; dogs 40 pounds or more; or dogs or cats with special needs.
Hundreds of happy adoptions have happened because of this program. Gerald and Tiger are just one example:
Prior to adopting Tiger, Gerald did not know about Pets for Patriots, but would now recommend the nationally operating charity to other veterans.
“I’d definitely tell them to adopt a pet,” says the Korean war veteran, “especially if they were lonely, if they had circumstances like mine, without a lot of friends or family.”
Since adopting Tiger, Gerald now has both. A faithful friend and doting family member.
“I have to laugh at some of the things he does, like chase after a rabbit or a squirrel he can’t catch,” Gerald says with a smile in his voice. “He’s brought a lot of comfort into my life and I don’t regret adopting him for a minute.”
